More Information
CEMMA President/CEO and Co-Founder Willie Blackburn was brought to The Bramalea Boxing Club by his late Uncle Gary Blackburn in 1979. At the age of nine, Willie was introduced to the Head Coach and Owner of the The Bramalea Boxing Club, Peter Swoujerman. Peter was talented in calisthenics and conditioning exercises. By the time Willie was 10, he had a muscular physique and strength like no other 10 year old, leading him to win a Gold Medal by way of a ‘Walk Over’ in the Golden Glove Championships, held at The Etobicoke Olympium.
Former Premier Bill Davis presented Willie with the award of “Top Fighter of the Month” and “Top Fight of the Tournament”. Willie finished his career in 1990 with 102 fights 82 wins, and 20 losses, with 6 Exhibition matches. Willie ended his career with his Trainer/Coach, and owner of Champion Gym, John Melich, and has now gone on to create the Canadian Elite Mixed Martial Arts (CEMMA).
